Exploring the kingdom of God.

November 23rd is the last Sunday in the Christian liturgical calendar. It is the Feast of Christ the King. The following Sunday starts the new year with the 1st Sunday of Advent, the preparation for Christmas. This service will look at the Christmas stories in the gospels of Matthew and Luke to see how the early Christians imagined the “kingship” of Jesus and how it relates to their Jewish heritage. We will also look at how the gospel writers contrasted Jesus with the kings of their day, Herod and Caesar Augustus.
